Energy Storage Solutions Pick Up Pace

An increasing number of solar energy companies are turning to energy storage solutions, a recent Nasdaq feature reveals
Solarcity, one of America’s largest solar energy providers and Sunpower are among the companies in the process of implementing such solutions. Solarcity chief executive Lydon Rive explained in a 2013 interview that Solarcity’s system will enable users to generate and store power from solar panels into battery packs. Most recently, solar energy company Enphase also made their presence known, unveiling an AC battery, which can be used in both residential and commercial projects
The advantage for these companies, in implementing these systems goes beyond just energy storage, as the integration process includes inverter systems. SunPower’s energy storage system converts DC electricity to AC power, with other companies employing similar strategies. Taking the step from energy storage to energy conversion is what adds further potential profit value to companies.
Solar energy vision
Solarcity, which has undertaken it’s project in partnership with Tesla Motors, the largest electric vehicle producer in the United States, is just one example of how companies are combining to take the the solar energy vision forward for the future.
While the article estimates that the next quarter of a century will see every home connected to an electric grid, with it’s own energy storage system, this will be the result of pressure for increases in efficiency and will occur necessarily as the result of maximum capacity or “critical mass”, it argues.
While a recent BBC news feature has revealed, government cutbacks of the renewable obligations subsidy has hurt the Solar industry, achievement of these goals is still likely underway, given the entrance of foreign competitors, such as TuNur, into the market.
