Businesses Strive to Lower Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Campaigns for renewable energy and energy tariffs help to propel businesses to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Sky, Bloomberg and HP have joined the RE100 campaign to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Over 50 firms, aiming to average 80% renewable energy by 2020, have signed up to the scheme, according to a recent press release.
“We’ve worked closely with HP and the company’s dedication to building sustainability into the business is clear” explained Amy Davidsen, executive director for North America at The Climate group. HP aims to be 100% renewable by 2020.
Other initiatives to incite more green energy in business are taking form. Dong Energy is looking to supply 100% renewable energy from its offshore wind portfolio, “We are taking this bold step……to reduce carbon emissions and develop a sustainable business.” explained Jeff Wittingham, managing director of Dong energy sales.
Green Energy Tariffs
Companies like Ecotricity and Good Energy are launching their own green energy tariffs in light of these trends in renewable energy in business.
“Emissions from energy are one of the biggest causes of global warming, and the simplest way to cut your footprint is by switching to renewable electricity” explained Good Energy founder Juliet Davenport.
The Good Energy tariffs, which is just one of the organizations adopting renewable based energy tariffs, will include 6% biomethane, produced from organic matter.
These tariffs come at a time when renewable energy costs have increases as a result of falling demand among business, “[At] a time of tight budgets and fierce competition for business of all types and sizes” explained Wittingham.
